In Tzitzifes you can go around on foot, come to the local traditional coffee house which serves Greek coffee, raki and soft drinks under the shade of the vine. You can visit the tavernas in the village to savor local traditional Cretan dishes, such as moussaka, tzatziki and pies made from the purest ingredients. The village of Tzitzifes gets its name from there Tzitzifia tree which flourishes in the area. Right in the center of the village is a water fountain built in 1871. Its crystal cold water descending from the White Mountains range is particularly good for digestion. On this same spot are two perennial platanus trees that are over 600 years old.
Among the festivities taking place in the village are: Christ’s fair at the old Byzantine church on the 5th and 6th of August and festivities for the birthday of Virgin Mary on the 7th and 8th of September.
