The space
The house is beautiful and also rustic, more suited to travelers who wish for an authentic experience than for five star travelers. It has two kitchens, an upstairs kitchen that is set into a free standing marble countertop, with a mini-fridge, and a downstairs kitchen with a full fridge. There are two bathrooms with showers only (no bathtubs on an island with limited water!) There is a downstairs bedroom with a double bed, a single bed in the middle downstairs room, and two sleeping couches upstairs. Thus the house could accommodate a family or a group of friends. The Ano Hora is a ancient traditional mountain village that was fortified against the Turkish and Venetian pirates and remains of the defending walls are built into the village. It is a mix of traditional houses and upscale renovated houses. The streets are a labyrinth of walking paths--no cars allowed. There are bars, shops, and excellent food from a number of restaurants, plus good cheap souvlaki stands for a quick meal. With two functioning kitchens, you can go to the bakery for fresh, hot bread in the morning and to the two food markets and cook at home if you like. The nearby bars and coffee shops all offer wi-fi, and we now have wi-fi in the house, too!

Travel Details from the host -> I am a half-Greek, half-American writer and a professor who lives and teaches in California. I come to Greece every summer to spend time with my family and the country that I love, but later in the summer I go back to work, and so I share my house with interested renters. My mother is a Greek artist, my father an American poet, and the whole family has work in the arts--writing, art, architecture, sculpture. The house even has a few paintings by my mother on the wall!
