Although the house is located in a very vivid area of town, you can enjoy the peacefulness and quietness at all times as the rooms are located in the back of the house, with a view of the large garden.

The space
I'm a single mother of two (newborn twins) and currently renting out a part of the house to cover cost of the ongoing renovations of this 19th century house.

Although still ongoing, most renovation works are finished but the bathroom is still very basic and the hallway needs new paint. Nevertheless it's a charming old house in the typical Belgian style.

This house is located in the center of Ghent, on a fifteen minute walk from the historic heart. And on a ten minute walk from the train station (Ghent Dampoort). The house is located between the 'Visserij', 'Macharius' and 'Dampoort' area. Dampoort neighbourhood is known for the its intercultural live and atmosphere. There is a lot of greenery, what you don't often see in the city because Ghent is rated as one of the 'greyest' cities in the world :-). You have at least five small and big parks around the house where you can go to relax or where you have public BBQ sets.

The 'Visserij' and 'Macharius' are mainly populated by young people and young families. There is lots of restaurants and several cozy local bars here.

Travel Details from the host -> As a freelance journalist and producer mainly in the Middle East, I am often travelling abroad. When I am in Belgian I am living alone in my house in the center of Ghent, with a spare room to rent out to people for short term projects. Besides these projects, the rooms are free for rent to anybody who is willing to visit the beautiful city of Ghent and its surroundings. During my stay abroad, my proper room is available as well. After being a host for more then eight years trough several ways, I still love it every day a bit more. Its amazing to host people from all over the world. To help them around if necesary and to give them the space an privacy they need to assure them the most pleasant stay they can imagine. Ghent can be crowded, and so can be the hotels and hostels, therefore I see renting out a part of my private house as a great opportunity for both guest and host.
