Destelbergen is een kastelengemeente, dicht bij Gent. Er zijn ook veel vijvers en meertjes, waarvan enkel mits toestemming toegankelijk zijn, en de publieke meren kan rond gewandeld worden. Helaas is zwemmen niet toegestaan. Er zijn veel watersporten en kampen in de buurt tijdens de zomer. Het ligt op 10 min rijden van Gent en is op 2min van de oprit van de R4, E40 en E17. Er is een manege , een sauna/wellness complex , een fitness, verschillende lokale restaurantjes, allemaal op 5min rijden. Het nabijgelegen dorp is Lochristi, Beervelde, Laarne waar er mooie wandelingen of fietstochten kunnen gemaakt worden.
