When we found out that a big thermo-electrical power plant was going to be constructed on the beach, nesting site of the sea turtle Caretta Caretta, we started collaborating with the Rhode’s Club for the Protection of the Environment, a team of searchers (from Universities of Athens and Rome and Chelon) and the BRITISH Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV). Our work contributed to safeguard the local natural environment, that was included in the European network ‘Nature 2000’.  \nIn 2001 I completed the construction of the Ecovilla (as far as I know the first straw bale house in Greece), and in 2007 the Cottage.  I inaugurated the Ecovilla by offering free hospitality to the children in need of the Greek association ‘Hamoielo tou pediou’.  \nFor over 20 years, I've been engaged in humanitarian and development work with the Red Cross and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Afghanistan, Yemen, South Sudan and other countries. I currently chair pro bono Nove Onlus  (Website hidden by Airbnb)  an Italian NGO supporting the most vulnerable people, especially women, children and disabled persons. I invest part of the revenues from the Ecovilla and the Cottage in Nove Onlus’ activities and I support volunteers planting trees in Rhodes’ burnt areas.
